One-Way vs. Two-Way Doors

A one-way door (Type 1) is a decision that's costly or impossible to reverse, so it warrants careful deliberation. A two-way door (Type 2) is easily reversible, so it should be decided quickly by the people closest to it. Amazon's rule: don't apply heavyweight process to reversible decisions.

Bezos argued that as organizations grow, they tend to apply one-way-door rigor to two-way-door choices - and grind to a halt. The fix is to classify the decision first.

Writing a PR/FAQ is itself a cheap, reversible way to explore a potentially one-way-door product bet before committing real resources.
